ABT at DTM Brands Hatch 2011 – September 2nd to 4th 2011

DTM roars back to Brands Hatch in September for the fastest touring car race of the year!

Audi and Mercedes will once again do battle on the ‘bullring’ Indy circuit, as the fire-spitting 470bhp machines compete with some of the world’s best drivers at the helm.

Tens of thousands of spectators turned up in 2010 to support Britain’s contenders, including Audi ABT driver Oliver Jarvis, former F1 star David Coulthard, and the field in 2011 is set to be just as impressive.

ABT want as many DTM fans to join them at the race to cheer on their fellow ABT Audi Drivers, Jarvis, Schieder, Rockenfeller & Ekstrom.

Introducing the New ABT Beetle

ABT Sportsline is currently working flat out on the Kempten version of the new VW Beetle. Plenty of heart and soul is also put into the development of the components, as Hans-Jürgen Abt underlines. After all the General Manager of the world’s largest tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen group still raves about his first “bug” from Wolfsburg: “We implanted a 90 HP engine from a VW Bus into the Beetle, and gave it a pert bodywork, front spoiler lip and a rear spoiler. The car was real fun to drive, particularly on the windy roads here in Bavaria.”

The new Beetle should also be an agile fun car, so a real Speedle. Like its successful predecessor which was built over 50 years ago, it also has to be completely reliable. A Beetle runs and runs and runs – that was how it was and how it has to be in the future. “With regards to performance improvements we can only look at combining maximum enjoyment with maximum reliability and everyday usability in balanced ABT POWER packages”, explains Hans-Jürgen Abt. As a result the engines of the ABT Beetle are currently undergoing extensive testing, which is why the exact performance data will only be supplied later.

These levels are realistic, based on the experience of the Development Department at ABT: with the 1.2 TSI the series standard 105 HP (77 kW) will be increased to around 140 HP (103 kW), while with the 1.4 TSI (series standard: 160 HP/118 kW) around 210 HP (154 kW) can be expected. “The two-litre turbo VW offers 200 HP or 147 kW, and we expect that the ABT version will provide 230/240 HP”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. The diesel versions of the Beetle will be economically-conscious Speedles: the 1.6 litre diesel engine will provide 125 HP (92 kW) instead of 105 HP (77 kW), and the 2.0 TDI will have 170 HP or 125 kW (series standard: 140 HP/103 kW). The ABT Performance Springs will ensure that the cool Beetle is fun to drive not just on windy Bavarian roads.

And of course the ABT Beetle is also a special car visually – the cuddly round car is a vehicle with a real edge so to speak.  Its low centre of gravity shows that it is no ordinary vehicle. The front spoiler, rear skirt insert, rear skirt set with rear muffler and oval exhaust pipes, or even the side skirts underline the classic bodywork of the Beetle. With the front and rear headlight brows the car looks pleasant, fresh and sharp. Or to express it with a quote from the hit film “The Love Bug”: “Hey, he’s a nice little guy” – and like “Herbie” still a real winner. Since then decorative sets have been part of the Beetle, and ABT Sportsline is now linking retro styles with the latest trends, because the “Speedy-Beetle” is certainly not out of touch. It stands for the here and now and looks good on cool ABT DR wheels in a confident 19 inch size. The extravagant alloys are of course – as usual at ABT Sportsline – also available with high-performance tyres.  Even though further details and a datasheet about the new ABT Beetle will only be available later, one thing is already certain: the new car will be a well-rounded package.

Summit in Bangkok – ABT at the Super Car & Import Car Show

A marketing budget of 60 million Baht (€ 1.4 million) and 1.7 million visitors – this alone made the Super Car & Import Car Show in Bangkok straight away, on its debut last year, into one of the leading trade fairs for this constantly growing market. ABT Asia LLP and its regional partner ABT Thailand therefore decided to be present this year at the IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. The show, which opened its doors from 14th to 22nd May, was a magnet for the Bangkok region. More than 12 million people live in the surrounding area of the up-and-coming metropolis which lies on the Chao Phraya river. Wolfgang Kitzeder, the General Manager of ABT Asia LLP already sees the positives: “The Thais are car-crazy, they were literally flocking to our stand. We could see that both of the models we had on show were well liked by the well-informed audience.”

In hall 8 two automobiles from Bavaria showed the wide range of possibilities: the world’s largest tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen group presented roadster feeling in its most beautiful form with the breathtaking ABT R8 Spyder. And the ABT Golf stood for a symbiosis of economy and sporting spirit – making it a real ABT. Wolfgang Kitzeder stressed that the Thais do have purchasing power: “The local economy shows two-digit growth figures year on year, in 2010 it was 15 percent”, says the experienced manager of ABT. As a result many premium brands of the sector are present here, as Kitzeder underlines: “Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz and Brabus – our stand is in perfect company and we will definitely be exhibiting again at the Super Car & Import Car Show in 2012.

ABT Sportsline voted Best Brand

The readers of the well-established AUTO ZEITUNG magazine voted for their “Top brands” and crowned ABT Sportsline as their number 1. In the “Tuner” section the tuning company from Kempten prevailed for the fourth consecutive time against notable competitors such as Brabus and AC Schnitzer. “We are delighted with the confirmation of our work by the readers of AUTO ZEITUNG. With our new models such as the ABT AS1, ABT AS6, the ABT R8 GT S and the ABT AS7, we will again be presenting sporty and attractive vehicles in 2011 with which we will be meeting the challenge of our competitors“, said Hans-Jürgen Abt, the General Manager of the company from Bavaria with a rich tradition.

Classy and fine: ABT at the Top Marques Show in Monaco

Although the motor show in the Grimaldi Forum of Monaco may not be the biggest – not all manufacturers and vehicle tuners present their new products here – it is one of the highest-quality events in the calendar with regards to the audience and the surroundings. “As a result we have decided to fly our flag in the principality”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. The General Manager underlies that the Top Marques is one of the best places for fans of special cars.

As a result ABT Sportsline will be presenting two absolute premium highlights in Monaco from 14th to 17th April. On the one hand there is the beautiful ABT R8 GT S, a Spyder with excitingly-light carbon and an output of 620 HP (456 kW). The “open-hearted” super sports car is tailor-made for the picturesque roads along the Côte d’Azur. The second vehicle on show to visitors is the elegant-dynamic ABT A7. The Bavarians have tuned the finer details of the Sportback, and the result is an impressive automobile which meets the highest demands as a travel companion and a sports machine.

ABT R8 GT S – The hot open-top sports car

Red is the colour of love – and the Spyder ABT R8 GT S is on display in an elegant, self-confident red chrome tone at the Motorshow Geneva. A contrast is provided by the middle section of the car with carbon dominating from the bonnet to the rear wing. When designing the car, the Motorsport Department of ABT Sportsline paid attention to weight reductions and the perfect distribution of weight. With its dynamic carbon inlays at the side and on the covers of engine and convertible-top the cabrio signalises that it is one of the fastest around. The front skirt, rear skirt, windscreen frame cover, red air scoops, engine bonnet or even the mirrors are not just design, they are made of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CRP) and are correspondingly light. The sports car is the perfect weight to achieve highest performance.

The dream car from Bavaria now brings 620 HP (456 kW) onto the road thanks to ABT POWER. This is compared to 525 HP (386 kW) on standard models. A performance improvement of almost 20% is a statement in the super sports car class: the ABT R8 GT S sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h. The cabrio with the 5.2 litre V10 engine is fully compatible for everyday use and is real fun for cruising on country roads. After all the “hot open-top sports car” is open to anything. And thanks to the ABT Suspension the setup is optimal at all times. The Sports exhaust system provides good acoustics and is an important part of the design concept, it harmonises with the diffuser, rear wing and trapeze-shaped rear skirt. The car is not just extremely quick, but also looks like it is. It makes hearts skip a beat, especially when the light metal alloy ABT BR in 20 or the CR Superlight in 19 inch announce the car’s inherent power even when stationary.

With the ABT R8 GT S the love of detail continues in the interior: ABT Sportsline has “dressed” the sports steering wheel, the centre console, the shifting gate and parts of the door panels in red carbon. As a contrast the remaining parts of the doors and the dashboard were covered with new leather. The texture of the material is expressive and elegant. The red and black leather of the seats perfectly harmonises with this styling. Red safety belts and illuminated door sill panels round off the powerful appearance of the ABT R8 GT S.

ABT DR. The wheel. Reduced to its most exceptional.

The development of a new wheel is a part of evolution – at ABT Sportsline this is clear from the name: the latest master piece from the Design Department of the vehicle tuner is called DR and follows on from the successful creations AR, BR and CR. And just like each of its predecessors it is refreshingly different, excitingly dynamic and an eye-catcher “even without a car”. In the new DR alloy from ABT Sportsline the previously gained experience culminates in a special, confident statement – and precisely because of this the second letter could easily stand for “RIGHT” as in the “right wheel”. The ABT DR is reduced to its most exceptional, it is exclusive and expressive and suits the cars of the Volkswagen group excellently, after all it was designed precisely for them.

Available in 18 to 22 inch, it harmonises with the bold curves of the Audi A7 or the VW Passat CC or even with large limousines – the Audi A6 or Škoda Superb. The wheel looks just as good on the VW Golf and VW Scirocco as on sporty SUVs, such as the Audi Q5 or the VW Touareg. Those who are confident enough to prove they have special taste, get a sophisticated highlight of engineering with the new DR. This is because the wheel has been weight-optimised and was co-developed by the Motorsport Department of ABT Sportsline. The influence of the tried and tested DTM and GT Masters professionals is evident on the outside with the engraving ABT Motorsport on the alloy rim.

The design also bears the hallmarks of motorsport, combining pure dynamism with elegance: the successful 3D impression ensures that the wheel exudes thrust and speed even when
at a standstill. Arranged at different angles, turned inwards and running to the outside – the five double spokes stand for power and lightness, as well as movement and stability. The extravagant gun-metal look also gives the “hot” sporty nature of the alloy from ABT an extra dose of coolness. Although the Bavarians have not actually reinvented the wheel, they have redefined it by the interplay of shapes and colours. ABT DR – THE WHEEL.

Built to be outstandingly quick – The new ABT A6

6 is a powerful number: If you throw a six in Ludo, you reach the goal quicker, and the same also applies if you drive an ABT A6. Power and comfort make the premium car a perfect everyday companion. Long journeys can be managed with ease, but the fun already begins on short trips. Regardless of whether you choose a petrol or diesel engine, the A6 becomes a veritable sports car with a performance improvement from ABT Sportsline. In the developments for the new model from the successful A6 range, the world’s largest tuner of vehicles from the VW group also ensures that the character of noble superiority is not just retained, but is accentuated even further. Thanks to ABT POWER, the 3.0 TDI offers a
high-torque and cultivated 282 HP (207 kW) instead of the series standard 245 HP (180 kW). An ABT Turbocharger is additionally used in the ABT POWER S package, giving the diesel 310 HP (228 kW). 610 Nm torque ensure that the A6 can “cope playfully” with any situation. The professionals are currently working full out to develop a performance improvement for the 3.0 TFSI: The petrol engine will then bring a powerful 410 HP or 302 kW onto the road (series standard: 300 HP / 221 kW).

Visually it is also clear exactly where the new ABT A6 comes from: From the back it confidently shows its rear skirt with the typical four tailpipe look of ABT Sportsline. The rear spoiler adds to the elegant appearance of the car and gives it an even sportier look. The side skirts and front spoiler underline the other “sweet sides” of the successful Ingolstadt design. “For us the A6 is an extravagant, straight-forward car, which doesn’t show off yet also doesn’t hide away,” states Hans-Jürgen Abt. For the General Manager of the traditional company which recently celebrated its 115 year anniversary, the A6, which has been further developed specifically to reduce its weight, is a great success: “It is just the prefect choice for our demanding customers.”

The appearance of the new A6 can be rounded off perfectly with the alloy creations from ABT Sportsline: The designer light alloy wheels are available in 19 to 21 inch and, of course, in combination with fitting high-speed tyres. Which wheel you choose in the end is of course a matter of taste, but all the models suit the classy-dynamic appearance of the ABT A6 harmonically. One thing remains unchanged: Throwing a 6 may make you happy in the short-term, but the ABT A6 gives you lasting enjoyment.
